Working principle of shock absorber

The vehicle suspension system vibration due to the elastic element by the impact, in order to improve the ride comfort, suspension and elastic elements arranged in parallel for the attenuation of shock absorber, vibration, vehicle suspension system with shock absorber is hydraulic damper, its working principle is when the frame (or body) and between the axle vibration and relative rotation the shock absorber piston, move up and down, the oil shock absorber cavity will be repeated from one cavity through different pore flow into another cavity. At this point, the friction between the hole wall and the oil and the internal friction between the oil molecules will form damping force on the vibration, so that the vibration energy of the vehicle can be transformed into oil heat energy, and then absorbed by the shock absorber to the atmosphere. When the section and other factors of the oil channel are constant, the damping force increases or decreases with the relative speed between the frame and the axle or wheel, and is related to the viscosity of the oil.

Shock absorbers and elastic components undertake the task of slow shock and shock absorption. The excessive damping force will cause the suspension elasticity to deteriorate and even damage the shock absorber connector. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the contradiction between the elastic element and the shock absorber.

(1) in the compression stroke (the vehicle bridge and the frame are close to each other), the damping force of the shock absorber is small, so as to give full play to the elastic function of the elastic element and ease the impact. At this point, the elastic element plays a major role.

(2) in the suspension extension stroke (the vehicle bridge and the frame are far away from each other), the damping force of the shock absorber should be large and rapidly damping.

(3) when the relative speed between vehicle axle and vehicle bridge is too large, it is required that the shock absorber can increase the liquid flow automatically and keep the damping force within a certain limit, so as to avoid excessive impact load.

The cylinder shock absorber is widely used in the automotive suspension system, and it can play the role of damping in the compression and extension stroke, it is called the bidirectional interaction shock absorber, and also adopts the new type of shock absorber, which includes the inflatable shock absorber and the resistance adjustable shock absorber.
